HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER.
CLIFTON COUNTY DEFERS ACTION. LOOKING TO NEW PLYMOUTH. Hydro-electric power was briefly discussed at yesterday’s meeting of the Clifton County Council. Mr. W. Power (acting-secretary of the Taranaki Electric Power Committee) wrote asking whether the council was agreeable to be included in the outer area as indicated in the resolution passed at the conference between representativqs of local bodies and the Taranaki Elefctric Power District League. In the event of the council deciding to be included, they were asked to elect a delegate to assist the committee. Cr. Sutton questioned whether it would be better to join the proposed power board or apply direct to New Plymouth for power. There was the risk that if they joined the provincial board that board might look for power elsewhere and leave New Plymouth out. He doubted if the board would ever be able to take over the New Plymouth scheme. It seemed to him that New Plymouth was not given credit for what they had done x
Cr. Jones asked whether New Plymouth. could supply all the people that required power. Cr. Sutton said that New Plymouth could generate further power, if the funds were available. The provincial power board was working in the dark. After a little further discussion it was decided to hold the matter over till next meeting, pending further information being secured as to the Actual position.
