Ladies’ Championship : Mrs. H. D. Hill. Senior Stroke Competition (president’s trophy): W. C. Christie. Junior Stroke Competition (president’s trophy): H. Burmester. Ladies’ Putting Competition: Mrs. Pratt. STRATFORD v. WAVERLEY. Stratford ladies defeated Waverley ladies on the Stratford links yesterday by 7 games to 3. Total: Stratford, 7; Waverley, 3. | GENERAL. The Stratford District High School Girls’ Hockey Club held a very enjoyable plain and fancy dress dance in the Parish Hall last night. There was an attendance of about 100, and there were many pretty fancy dresses. Music was supplied by Miss O. Taylor, extras being played by Misses Fields and Boon. / At a meeting of the Stratford** School Committee last night it was decided that the matter of providing a hostel for the children should be fully gone into at the next meeting, as it was felt that if there were no hostel parents would not so readily send their children to the school as if they were sure that the children would he under the best conditions and control. It was considered that children from all over central Taranaki would attend the school, and that there should be a strong campaign for a new hostel. It has been decided to begin play on the Avon Bowling Club’s green on November 3. Although the green has only been ' down for two years, and there has been practically only one season’s play on it, it is in first-class order, and there is no doubt that it will soon be a very fine green. KING’S CINEMA THEATRE TO-DAY. 'THROUGH JUNGLE WILDS.” Mr. Harry Kaigh Eustace, the big game hunter and African explorer, lived for 27 years in the heart of the jungles of Central Africa, and had several hair-breadth escapes from death. At considerable risk he took moving pictures of lions, buffaloes, zebras,/ leopards, elephants, rhinoceroses, and 'reptiles, including boa constrictors and pythons, sometimes assisted at the kinematograpli by his wife, and at other times by the natives.
