PERSONAL.
Mr. L. Birks, Government Chief Electrical Engineer, is at present in. hospital in Adelaide, suffering from pneumonia. He recently went over to Australia on a holiday visit to, relatives there.
The Wanganui Herald records the death there on Wednesday of Mr. Arthur Kennedy Blundell, formerly a well-known inspector of stock in the Department of Agriculture.
Reference to the death of Mr. James Corrigall was made at the annual meeting of the Park Tennis and Croquet Club last night, he having been a vicepresident of the club. It was decided to forward -a letter to the relatives of the late Mr. Corrigall conveying the sympathy of the club. Few people probably know that Mr. A. P. Whatman, the well-known Wairarapa sheep farmer, who is also a keen supporter of all kinds of sport, was about 40 years ago a musterer on the Mangahane estate, Inland Patea. It was here that Mr. Whatman, who is no mean exponent of the noble art, had his first fight.. This was with a bully who was working on the estate, and whom ,Mr. Whatman soundly thrashed.
