SHORT-WEIGHT BREAD. By Telegraph.—l‘ress Association Auckland, Oct. 6. Mr. Justice Herdman .allowed the appeal by the inspector against the decision of Mr. Cutten, S.M., in dismissing the case against Walter Buchanan, baker, charged with selling short-weight bread. Defendant had stated when selling bread that it was not under 11b 14oz. and might be two pounds, which the Magistrate accepted as compliance with the Act, but Mr. Justice Herdman held that the purchaser was entitled to know the true wegiht of the loaf supplied and should not be left in any doubt. The case was referred back to the Magistrate. MR. LYSNAR’S CLAIM. Wellington, Oct. 6. Mr. Justice Reed gave judgment today in the case Gisborne Harbor Board v. George Henry Lysnar, to decide the liability of the board under an agreement to pay Lysnar one per cent, on the harbor -scheme proposed by him. Mr. Justice Reed decided the agreement was valid and binding on the board and, subject to Lysnar’s scheme being such as the agreement contemplated, he would be entitled to one per cent., which is estimated at £15,000.
