LAWN TENNIS.

THE PARK CLUB. THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Park Tennis and Croquet Club wa.s held last night, when there was an attendance of about fifty. In the absence of the president (Mr. A. Ambury), Mr. A. Diprose was voted to the chair. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report stated that the number of members of the club had increased from 68 to 86, 58 ladiea and 28 men. A ball was held in the Coronation Hall during July, and the thanks of the club were due to the committee in charge, although the function was not the financial success anticipated. The report stated that as the croquet members of the club were raising the amount required for their new lawn it had been derided that they should keep the account, and therefore the figures regarding this work did not appear in the balance-sheet. In view* of the fact that Saturday had become the general holiday, it was decided to have a new court made. All the five courts would be ready for play on the opening day. Several members of the club attended the annual Taranaki tournament, and the ladies’ handicap singles was won by Miss I. Frethey. Two members. Messrs. Bosworth and Shearer, got as far as the semi-finals in the men's handicap doubles. Ten inter-club matches were played, the club being successful in 7. Touching on finance, the report stated that the total debit balance was £46 17s lid. and against this there were unpaid subscriptions amounting to £6. The club’s debts were roughly £4O; this was the amount in hand at the end of last summer before the new court was started. The estimated cost of the work was £4O, but the actual figure was £6B. The ball showed a debit balance of £24. With the increased membership expected, however, the club would no doubt easily manage the finances for the coming season. Remarking on the amount of the debit balance. £46 17s lid, the chairman said this would have been still further reduced if all the members’ subscriptions had been paid up, the amount outstanding being £6. He thought it was a regrettable feature that there were some people who were willing to take all the advantages of the club and not pay for them. Possibly during the eoming season it would be necessary for the club to revise the rules in re-. gard to non-payment of subscriptions. The report and balance-sheet were then adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr. A. Knapp; vice-presi-dents, Mrs. C. Hill, Messrs. J. Scanlon, C. Carlson, W. Marshall, J. J. Lomas, IF. C. Tribe, W. Hookham; trustees for the Pukekura Park Board. Messrs. J. : Scanlon, T- C. List, and F. W. Sandford; secretary, Mr. F. Shearer; treasurer. Mr. R. The tennis players decided to have a selection committee, two members in addition to the club captain, and Miss Malcolm and Mr. Shipton were appointed to the positions.

GENERAL. A resolution was carried in favor of leaving the size of the committee to be decided by each annual meeting. The following new members were elected: Mesdames Dabb. W. J. A suggestion was made that the club should provide tennis balls, for which membership fees would be increased by a levy of 10s. On a show of hands the proposal was defeated, but another motion limiting the extra levy to tennis players was carried. It was decided that the entrance fee for the croquet section be increased from 5s to £1 Is. Fees for visitors to the courts were fixed at 5s per month for ladies and 7s 6d for men. , The following entertainment committee was elected: Mesdames Scanlon, Hill, Honnor, Hookham, McGahey, Mari shall. Misses Cameron (2), Messrs. A. I Brooker, J. Austin, L. Williams, A. North, and M. Bosworth. It was decided that the matter of unpaid subscriptions be left to mittee to deal with. With the idea of providing for players who are not in the A team, it was decided, on the motion of Mr. Diprose, that when matches are being played two courts be set aside for general use, and also that no matches be played on public holidays.
