JERSEY CATTLE.
&<6ALE OF PEDIGREE STOCK. '*'■ SECOND DAY'S CATALOGUE. ? FURTHER GOOD PRICES. The sale of pedigree Jersey bulls, the property of various breeders in North Taranaki, was continued on the Taranaki A. and P. Society’s grounds, at New Plymouth, yesterday, ’when there was again a large attendance’. Prices generally did not reach the level of the previous day, but most of the catalogue was cleared, and visiting breeders were well represented in the list of purchasers. The top figure was realised for Meadowvale Gold King, one of Messrs. E. O’Sullivan and Sons’ entry, for which Mr. H. B. Lepper paid 130 guineas. The sum of 120 guineas was paid for another animal belonging to the same vendors, Meadowvale Generol Gamboge, the 1 purchaser being Mr. G. T. Seymour (Blenheiim). Messrs. O’Sullivan’s other entry. Meadowvale Mullingar, went to Mr. J. S. Jones (Bell Block), at 90 guineas. All these animals claimed descent from Sultan's Daisy, the well-known champion, and also bad the Camponile’s Sultan blood. A bull entered by Mr. K. C. Henry (Poplarvale Admiral), was purchased by Mr. F. Ranford (Stratford), at 87 guineas, and Mr. W. H. Watkins (Waverley) secured Lucky’s Knight for 80gns. from Mr. John Hale. Other prices ranged from 30 to over 50 guineas. During an interval in the sale Mr. H. B. Lepper, addressing breeders, urged upon them the importance of looking after the registered brands at sales. He extended thanks i.o the ladies of the Bell Block and Omata districts who had so capably managed the luncheon department at the sale.
Opportunity was taken by Mr. E. Griffiths to make an appeal to Jersey breeders to assist the Taranaki A. and P. Society with the roofing of the cattle pavilion by taking up debentures in the society. He also announced that the executive of the N.Z.J.B.A. had expressed its intention of subsidising the New Plymouth Jersey Breeders’ Club to the extent of £ for £ up to £25 on any money raised for Jersey classes at the Taranaki Show. Mr. Griffiths said some support had already been received, but they should not stop at £25. The best way of popularising the Jersey was to give encouragement to the classes at the show, and in this instance any money raised would be in addition to the usual prizes allocated by the society. This was a good opportunity for helping the breed along. The sale was conducted by Messrs. Newton King, Ltd., and was put through with' expedition. Mr. K. F. Kirk wielded the hammer.
