QUEST FOR GOLD.

DBKDGING AT HOKITIKA. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hokitika. Last Night'. The Rimu dredge washed up a return of 198ozs from twenty-five thousand yards in the opening out operations, and the* return will be about 9d a yard. This is considered very satisfactory and bears out the prospecting carried out prior to the dredge being built. The dredge is , successfully coping with heavy boulders ' and the cement-like formation, the I whole plant having had a most successful try-out under a heavy test. The .ground in front of the dredge is not expected to be as heavy as that at present being worked, having a depth of forty to forty-five feet. The management expect everything to be in full working order by the end of the month, ; when the output promises interesting ■ figures. It is not the intention at present of the management to announce future return results.
