P. and O. shares.—-Buyers £360, sellers £•370. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLED REPORT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated October 1, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— MEAT. Market very irregular and much weaker, i owing to, firstly, large quantity of frozen I meat in store and discharging, and secondly, Itc low price accepted for Argentine .meat Another reason given is that holders forced to realise by banks. New Zealand mutton, light-weight: October I, 7%d-8d; September 24, 7%d-8d; Septemter 17, Bd. N.Z. ewes: October 1, 5%d; September 24, 5%d. Patagonian, ewes: Octo-.-ber 1, New Zealand lamb, light-weight, selling at irregular price: October 1, .Iod-10%d; Sep-' tember 24, ll%d; September 17, Is o*4d. New Zealand Lamb, heavy-weight, officially quoted: October 1, 9%d; September 24, 10%d; Sept?mber 17, 10%d. but little demand, and lower price being accepted. New Zealand Beef.—Very little demand, but sales have been made at: October 1, hinds 5%d, fores 4%d; September 24, hinds Gd. •fores September 17, hinds 6d, fores 4’/Ad, official quotations somewhat higher. BUTTER. Demand continues slow, and position generally unstable, buyers withholding in anticipation of. a further fall. Last week’s sales 1 Government ■colonial butter were . below store prices, and from information to han>d it appears that sales confined chiefly to stocks purchased at ex store prices ruling in June aud July last. New Zealand realised from 208 s to 223 s per cwt., 13 10%d to 2s per lb. Bradford market firm for new* business for prompt delivery, but future, delivery still quiet. Top-makers asking higher price in view of Liverpool sales opening at 5 per cent, to 10 per cent, in advance on closing rates last London series. Quotations are: 64’s (merino), October 1,4 s Id; September 24, 3$ 7d; 56's (super halfbred), October 1,2 s 4d; September 24, 2s. 3d; 40’s prepared (coarse crossbred), October 1, Is o%d; September 24, Is o%d. SOUTHERN MARKETS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The oat market stows weakening, and maximum offers at country stations are now about 2s lOd for A grade Gartons, only specially bright heavy feed or seed lines bringing 2s- lid. A good deal of business has been done at 3s 6d f.o.b. South Island. There is a simmer of anticipation about the clover market. It is thought a good deal of the lighter land used for wheat this year will be sown in clover next year, creating an added demand. This year’s croji has not been a heavy one, and values for both white clover and cow grass are well maintained. Potatoes are maintaining their recent rise. PEDIGREE JERSEY SALE. The annual Stratford pedigree Jersey bull fair by Messrs. Newton - King, Ltd., will be held this year on the Stratford Showgrounds I to-morrow (Thursday), October -6, commencing at 10.30 a.m. The names of all the best strains of Jersey blood appear in the pedigrees of the animals to be submitted, and in almost all cases the names of the vendors are known as breeders of high quality stuff for years past. Tn quote a few from the catalogue issued by the firm; "Dairyman's General,” which runs back to Campanile Sultan afid Molina’s General, will be offered by Mr. W. Vickers, who has five lots in his name. Mr. G. T. Gibbons (of Ngaere), has two lots of the Twylish-Starlight blood. Penrose Knight and Penrose Prince were bred by Mr. J. B. Cleinow, of Opunake Road. Mr. E. H. Linnet, of Midhirst, offers President Wilson, of K.C.8., and Pride of Egmont strains. Mr. A. A. Ward’s name as a. vendor? will be sufficient guarantee of the quality of his entries. Mrs. A. Gadsby, of Stratford, Ins four yearlings by Molina’s General. Mr. E. S. Walker will offer several lots. Mr. E. J. Kirkwood's Proteus of Willowbank has claims to the purple with Starlight -and the Sunf.cwer blood. Several entries appear in Mr. J. M. Shotter’s name, and his record for good pedigrees needs no repetition. Quite a number of others who are staunch believers in the Jersey will have entries forward. For the convenience of buyers from a distance any stock purchased at the sale will be put or. trucks at Stratford free of charge. Light luncheon will be provided on the grounds.
