WEST END SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the West End School Committee was held last night, when Mr. J. S. S. Medley (chairman) presided over a good attendance of members. The headmaster (Mr. D. P. Evans) reported that the number on the roil at the end of the June quarter was 563. During the quarter 53 pupils had' been admitted and 3S had left, leaving 578 on the roll at the end of the September quartw. The average weekly roll had been 573.5, and the average attendance for the quarter 537.6, the percentage of attendance being 93.7. This, he said, was very good indeed, and if it cou.d be maintained they would be entitled to another assistant at the commencement of next year. He also drew attention to the lack of ventilation in standard V room, which urgently required attention. Various minor repairs were also needed. At present four teachers were absent on sick leave. It was resolved to draw the attention of the Education Board to the necessity for remedying the lack of ventilation. * It was also resolved to apply to the board for a subsidy on the cost of tarring and sanding the school ground, estimated fro cost £l5. A meeting will be held on Monday, October 17, to make final arrangements re the concert to be held, that week.
