Massey), on arrival this afternoon, was heartily welcomed' by a representative gathering. In replying briefly to the welcome by the Mayor, Mr. Massey said he had never felt better in his life. He hoped all would associate in working to bring to New Zealand that prosperity it deserved. Wellington, Last Night. The Prime Minister, interviewed tonight, intimated that he anticipated a strenuous session, but there would be no all flight sittings unless there was a tendency to block business. He said the Government intended to seriously tackle the tariff question. He had not yet had time to go into the question of the Racing Commission’s report. Compared, with England, New Zealand did not know what a slump really was. Last year’s surplus of £6,000,000 had been allocated to meet existing commitments and payments at Home, while large quantities of railway rolling stock and rails and machinery, material and appliances for the Public Works Department had made a big hole in the £5,000,000 loan. «,
Mr. Massey declined to make a statement as to whether New Zealand’s share of German reparations would be paid*in cash or credits, but he said he would make a statement in the House soon. Mr. Massey also stated that there was no improvement in regard to non-buying countries in Europe so far as a market for New Zealand wool was concerned.
