ASSAULT ON POLICE ALLEGED. By Telegraph —Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. At the Police Court to-day, George Caffrey was committed for trial on a charge of escaping from a train while in legal custody on August 27, with assaulting the police on his re-arrest on September 24. and with the theft oi a watch and chain valued at £5O. Bail was fixed at two sureties of £lw each.
ESCAPEE RE-APPEARS. Invercargill, Last Night. The man Edward Cossegrove, whose conduct created great alarm in the Inatapere district in March last, and w io eluded all efforts of the police to eaten him by hiding in the bush, has re-ap-peared after a long period of invisibility, and a party of police is out scouring the neighbourhood.
