BUTTER AND CHEESE. LONDON QUOTATIONS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house under date September 30 : New Zealand butter: Small demand; £lO 5s per cwt. At Opunake on the 19th ultimo: Store cows, to 31s; good springing heifers (close to profit), £ll to £l4; backward ditto, £9 to £l3 ss; others at market value; medium .springing cows, to £l3 10s; old and inferior, to £6. At Manaia, on the 20th ultimo we had only a small entry. Prices at late rates. At Palmer Road, on the 23rd ultimo, we had a good entry of dairy cattle. Good quality were keenly sought after; others were hard to quit under the hammer. However, wo disposed of the whole yarding before leaving, at satisfactory prices. We quote: Store pigs small 235; weaners, 16s; sow, £2 10s; good conditioned cows, £2 Ils to £5 Is; old and inferior sorts, 10s to £1 ss; Jersey and Jersey cross yearling heifers (well grown), £7 to £7 16s; others, £4 Is; bulls, £1 10s; good springing heifers, close up, £l2 10s to £lB 10s; line backwrd, well-grown Shorthorn heifers, £l2 10s; others, £5 19s to £9; heifers (calved), to £l2. At Kakaramea, on the 26th ultimo, we had a fair yarding of all classes of stock. Bidding was lagging throughout, and the bulk of the entries were passed in. Prices were: Store pigs, 39s to 51s; sow and litter, £7 ss; fair-conditioned cows, £1 10s to £ 2 Is; others at market value; empty heifers, £4; yearling heifers, Jersey cross, £4 14s; others, 25s to 365; best springing heifers (close to profit), £l3 to £l6; calved ditto, £l3; other springing heifers, £8 to £lO 10s; medium cows, to £l2. At Eltham, on the 28th ultimo, we had a good yarding. There was a big attendance, but competition was not brisk, except for pigs, and the majority of the yarding remained unsold. We quote: Store pigs, £2 Ils to £3 Is; smell ditto, to 30s; sows, £3 17s; fat cows (medium), to £5 12s Gd; fat and forward, £2 5s to £3 10s; store cows, 15s to 32s 6d; good springing cows, £l6 10s to £lB 10s; best springing heifers (Jersey), to £22 ss; good heifers (close up, mixed breeds), £ll to £l4 10s; backward and inferior, £5 to £lO.

At Hawera, on the 29th ultimo, we had a good yarding,‘particularly dairy cattle. Bidding was fairly brisk throughout, and the majority of the entry was sold at auction. At Stony River on the 27th Inst, a moderate yarding of both store and dairy cattle came forward. The demand for the former class was not quite up to the standard of late sales, but prices kept up fairly well neverthele.ss. Yearling Jersey heifers maintained tteir late values. In the dairy section there was a good enquiry, but the offering, with few exceptions, was of very ordinary quality. Store cows 10s, 19s, fresh conditioned do. £2, yearling heifers £2, £3, £3 Ils, Jersey do. £6 4s, £7 16s, £9 ss’ yearling steers £ll, empty heifers £5 10s, Springing cows £7 10s, £9 10s to £l2 10s, springing heifers £8 10s, £9, medium quality do. £ll 10s, £l3, better quality do. £2O, heifers at profit £7 to £ll.

On the 28th ult. we conducted a horse fain at Stony River to which a good entry of horses came forward, and also a strong attendance of buyers. The medium weighted all-round farm horse was tie most sought fitter on the day, both brokens and unbrokens of this class affording very keen competition. Hacks and Light harness horses also realised good prices. Unbroken drafts to three-quarter drafts £2l to £34 10s, lighter classes £7 5s to £lO, brokens, gnod all-round fanm workers £2B 10s to £36, milk carters and: light harness £l2 to £l7 10s, hacks £4 to £B, horse, gigj and harness £37.

At Witiwakaiho on the 29th ult. store cattle sold on a par with’ late levels, few pens remaining unsold. A fair yarding of dairy cattle was submitted, hut only cattle of good quality and close to profit were in demand. Quotations are as follows: Store cows, aged and inferior IDs, 15s, better sorts 30s, 355, forward do. £3 ss, £4. yearling heifers 255, £2 2s, £3 7s. Jersey do. £5 ss, £7 17s Gd, empty heifers £4 15s, £6 2s 6d, £B. springing heifers, backward £7, £7 15s, £8 10s, medium quality do. £ll, £l2, Jersey do. £l7, dairy cows £7 15s, £9, choicer quality do. £l6, £l9, £2l.
