BOY APPROPRIATES LAUNCH. By Telegraph—Press Association. Thames, Oct. 3. George Brookes, aged 14, employed on a. farm on the Hauraki Plain, disappeared on Wednesday. He apparently walked to Coromandel, where he boarded a big launch and put to sea. The engine was useless, so he hoisted a sail. The boy was overtaken, sailing merrily towards Auckland, having nearly crossed the Gulf. He had eaten only a few biscuits for five days.
