NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. ' The result of the bogey handicap played ou the New Plymouth Club’s links on Saturday for Sir. R. W. D. Robertson’s trophy was: R. T. McQuade 1 down; J. Christoffel 2 down; V. Dalgleish 3 down; J. Crapper 3 down; A. Bewley 3 down; Monteath 4 down; McNeill 4 down; S. Burgess 5 down; Blundell 5 down. THE WANGANUI CHAMPIONSHIP. The following description is given by the Chronicle of the final of the Wanganui men’s club between Dr. Williams and I. Saunders (won by tha former, 2 up and 1). Both were at the top of their form, and had a great struggle. The former wen* out in 34 (for eight holes) and back in 33 (eight holes), while for the same holdes Saunders was 36 and 34. As a sample of their driving, it may be mentioned that at Long Tom (548 yards) each was near the green in two, outdriving Kirkwood’s best at that hole by 40 yards. Dr. W’illiams also put c n some sensational putting, getting no less than three down from over thirty feet. Saunders also jjlayed a Kirkwood chip mashie shot to overcome a stymie on the green, and got his putt down. The Chronicle says:— “This is the first time for many years that the championship of the Wanganui Golf Club has gone to a new man. The handsome silver cup, which was handed over to Dr. Williams after the game, is engraved with the names of J. Harold, G. Saunders and I. Saunders many times, and J. Goss’ name also appears thereon, but these fine players have formed a close corporation for the coveted honor for many years past until Dr. Williams’ victory last week. Dr. Williams, for whom Mrs. Williams acted as caddie, came in for hearty ■congratulations upon his victory, the .first to facilitate him being that rightdown good sportsman, Imlay Saunders.”
