AGRICULTURAL MATTERS.
THE TARANAKI SOCIETY. The committee of the Taranaki Agricultural Society met yesterday. The committee fixed March 8 and 9 next as the dates for its annual stock show. It was also resolved that future shows be held on the Wednesday and Thursday nearest March 5 in each year. A resolution of sympathy was passed with the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson, in their bereavement. Similar resolutions were passed with Mrs. O. Sole and family and Mrs. M. Riordan in their recent bereavements. Owing to the lack of support extended to the kitchen garden competition it was decided to discontinue it, but to add a new class to the schedule of the winter show for best display of garden vegetables grown by residents in New Plymouth, and exhibited in a space 6ft. by 4ft. Mr. R. N. Uren, chief forest ranger for Taranaki, has been in communication with the society with respect to tree planting and suggesting that demonstrations on farms and also meetings be arranged along the coast for the purpose of discussing this important question. The committee feels that it is too late for tree planting this year, hut will correspond further with the forestry officers in regard to the proposal for holding meetings.
