OLD GIRLS’ MART.

TO-DAY’S ATTIbvCTION. Of all the different sections of the mart, which opens at 1 p.m. to-day, in the Coronation Hall, none will prove more attractive than those where eatables, may be bought. At the produce stall will be found large supplies of best fauo.y butter, eggs, cheese, fresh meat, cooked tongue, homb-made brawn and potted meat, cream, vegetables and herbs. Even those who may not wish for luxuries of any description could help materially by buying their necessary butter and eggs at the mart to-day. The quality is of the best and ordinary retail prices will be charged. At the jam and pickles stall there is an assemblage of sweetness, jams and jellies of golden apricots and cape-goose-berries, purple blackberries, glowing oranges ana crimson guavos. Sauces and pickles to tempt jaded palate complete the list. All are home-made with none of the hidden reservations of the pure foods law, except some honey which the bees may be trusted to make without supervision, and some pine-apple jam from Queensland, proved delicious. The cake stall will groan, for a time only, with sponges and madeiras. plum cakes, home-made bread, tarts and biscuits. A good wine needs no bush, and the cake makers of New Plymouth no advertisement. Afternoon tea will be served in connection with this stall. It will be arranged in the gallery of the hall, and will be run on slightly different lines from usual. Patrons will pay a shilling, and will be given a cup of tea at the first counter. From this they proceed to the cake counter immediately alongside, where they choose their p'-te of daintily cut sandwiches and cakes. There will be no reduction for children. Gifts of produce, jam, cakes, and cut flowers will be gratefully received by the committee, and may be left at the Coronation Hall any time to-day. The Mart will open to the public, admission free, at 1 p.m., and will close at 6 p.m.
