SPRINGBOKS’ DEFEAT.
THE CANTERBURY MATCH. STANDARD OF REFEREEING. » Wellington, Tuesday. With reference to the Capetown Argus correspondent’s comment on the refereeing in the. Canterbury—Springbok match, Mr. Will Lawson, Reuter’s correspondent with the Springboks, bears out what Mr. Simpson, the referee, stated yesterday. Mr. Lawson says he asked the team after the match what they attributed their defeat to, and they unanimously declared that the better team won.
Portions of Reuter's message to South Africa, dealing with this game, read as follows: “Win due to the extra pace of forwards. The Springboks are unanimous that the better team won. They had sheer weight in the scrums, but were too slow in the loose.”
