THE ONGAROTO MURDER.
SENTENCE TO STAND. Bj’ Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 28. The case of the Maori. Hakaraia Te Kahu, who was convicted in the Supreme Court at Hamilton of the murder of Patrick' Elliott at Ongaroto on March 27, and sentenced to death by Mr. Justice Stringer, was considered to-day at a special meeting of the Executive Council,'presided over by the GovernorGeneral. The decision come to was that the Executive Council, after very fully considering the case, could not see any grounds for interfering in the proper carrying out of the sentence.
The. Minister of Justice, Mr. E. P. Lee, in making the announcement, stated that the condemned man had made a statement before a Stipendiary Magistrate in Auckland prison to the effect that ho had shot Elliott and afterwards robbed him, but that the shooting was accidental.
