NUMBER OF MEN EMPLOYED, TARANAKI FIGURES. The following table, presented to the Wellington Central Progress League by Mr. G. Mitchell, M.P., shows the number of men employed on railway construction work since January last: — . -}• North Island.

The numbers employed in the South Island were as follows: Otira-Bealey line, a monthly average of 178 for the months from January to August inclusive, or a total of 1424. For the rest of the South Island a monthly average of 181 was employed, the total being 1449.
