EVERYBODY’S. LAST NIGHT OF “THE HOUSE OF INTRIGUE.” An absorbing mystery-romance is revealed in the feature at Everybody’s to--night, in the adaptation -for the screen of Arthur Stringer’s story “The Hpuse of Intrigue,” starring Peggy May, a celebrated actress who makes her screen debut in this attractive picture. A girl ignorantly allies herself with a band of crooks, but realising she is party to theft and forgery,! experiences a revulsion of feeling and holds up the band, and goes back to the struggle for existence penniless. A love story of more than usual interest is interwoven with the plot, and the supporting cast includes such well known names as Mignon Anderson and Donald McDonald. The bill includes gazettes, comedy, and “The Invisible Hand.” THE PEOPLE’S. MAY ALLISON IN “THE MARRIAGE OF WILLIAM ASHE.” To-night the People’s arc offering patrons something uniquely good in this new May Allison vehicle. It’s a story about marriage, and the sort of story that is of peculiar interest to every married and unmarried woman. It shows the conflict between a husband and wife, and as the wife Miss Allison, the star, presents one of the most charming and spirited character portrayals o-f her career. It is the picturisation of Mrs. Humphrey Ward’s famous novel, and patrons can rely on a first rate entertainment. “The Diamond Queen,” gazettes, and comedy are also on the bill.

DANCE RECITAL. IN THE EMPIRE THEATRE. The preliminary announcement of a dance recital to be given in the Empire Th atre on the evening of Tuesday, October 11 next, by Miss Mammie Ellis and pupils, appears in our amusement column. Miss Ellis, who hails from Christchurch, has been busy for months past, teaching her pupils the many fancy dances, which are to appear on the programme, and quite a treat is in store for theatregoers, as not only are the dances bright and varied, but the dressing will be of a very high order and charming nature. To assist Miss Ellis in the programme, the services of Mrs. A. B. Macdonald, Mr. A. 1.. North, and Mr. Arnold O. Sturrock, have been secured, so that a splendid evening’s I entertainment can be looked forward to. An efficient prehestra will supply the accompaniments for the different dances, the music for which has been specially orchestrated. Box plans for the one night season open at Collier’s music warehouse on Friday, October 8. Prices are 3s (reserved), and 2s, plus tax.
