THE MEAT MARKET. LONDON PRICES LOWER. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated the 24tlx Inst., from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — The meat market is weaker and prices uro lower. There are heavy supplies of homekilled and imported meat, with the result that holders are anxious to sell, and will accept a lower price. Large supplies of Argentine chilled beef arrived this week, and large supplies are in sight. A plentiful supply of home-killed resulted in less demand for frozen. Quotations: New Zealand mutton. lightweight to Bd, heavyweight . r »d, ewes lightweight 5%d, heavyweight no inquiry ; lamb, only very best quality in demand, lightweight ll%d; heavyweight lOd; beef, prime scarce and selling for country trade, hinds 6d, fores Argentine chilled beef, hinds Bd, fores B%d. PRICES AT WESTFIELD Auckland, Last Night. The following prices ruled at Westfield today : Beef.—-Medium yarding of good quality; prices firmer than at the previous sale; competition steadily maintained throughout; extra prime ox 355, prlune 33s to 295, plain and second quality £1 8s to £1 2s. prime cows and heifers £1 9s to £1 ss, plain 20s to 15a. Sheep.—Large y rding; good number unfinished; prime 21s 6d to 18s, lighter 10s 6d to 13s, ewes heavy 18s, prime 16s to 13s, others 12s to 10s. Calves.—Fair yarding; competition fairly keen; runners £€ to £4, realers £4 to £2 10s, fresh dropped 8s to ss. Pigs.—Good yarding; prices about on par; baconers £6 5s to £5, choppers £5 10a to £4 10s, porkers £4 to £2 10s, stores eagerly competed for.
