MT. EGMONT HOSTEL.
BRINGING IT UP-TO-DATE. A .meeting of the North Egmont Hostel Committee wm held yesterday afternoon at the mountain house, there being present: Meeeru. T. C. Liat (chairman), A. E. Syjtet, A. Boon, P. E. Stainton, C. H. Burgess and H. Bailey (secretary). After examining the buildings and ground, it was decided to excavate the ground at the rear of the building to a depth of 12 feet; to consult Mr. R. H. Bartley regardng the installation of a new eleotrio plant (the old one was destroyed by fire the year -before iaat); to obtain estimates for the painting and repair of the roof, alao of the extension of the wash-house, drying room, etc., the renovation of the interior of the building and the Installation of bigger and more up-to-date cooking oven, etc. The question of extending the accommodation, which ie now confined to eight single and six double rooms, was also considered, and Mr. Boon waa naked 1o prepare a plan and estimate of oast for a building containing eight cubicles 6 x 9ft, with a flpacioiu? verandah. The committee agreed that the building and appointments must be brought up to date and the extra accommodation provided if the hostel is to properly fill ite purpose and be a financial «ucceas. Mrs. Cameron, who has been engaged to manage the hostel for another term, has taken up her quarters, and is now busy preparing for the new season.
