SCANDALMONGER’S FATE
SHOT DEAD AT FEAST. London, Sept. 12. The special correspondent of the Daily Mail at Bangkok (Siam) reports that Nainuum, a jeweller, confessed to having shot dead a merchant who gossiped about Nainuum’s gifts to an actress. Nainuum pleaded that shooting was a more merciful punishment than the ancient law of pulling out the gossip’s tongue. Nainuum said that he invited his victim to a feast, plied him with opium, and shot him while he was describing the beautiful vision he could see. He pleaded that it was a merciful end, and added, “All gossips should be shot.” Nainuum was sentenced to fifteen years’ imprisonment.
