Earle marked and kicked well down field, but Coutts, with a well judged kick, which Smith failed to take, had Taranaki again attacking. Robertson centred., but Oliver hung and V. Again the Taranaki backs opened out and a movement by Berg, Oliver, Robertson and Hart saw the latter gallop for the line and kick when blocked, Eari saving. Fast play followed until Badeley marked. Hickey took the ball close to the line near half way and running in field dropped another beautiful goal. Auckland backs kept moving, Williams throwing forward when very dangerous. Then Earle, Badeley and Muir took part in a move that ended in the latter kicking, and Hickey smartly marked and lined. Then Birchall and Fogarty broke through, but the former kicked too hard and Muir was able to line. Taranaki secured from the scrum and Berg passed to Oliver, who handed on to Hart, the latter running and passing in to Hooker, who dropped the ball. McLean marked, but did not kick over the mark and from the scrum Taranaki pressed but Mclnnes broke through. Back came West, Campbell, Kivell and Co., and after a passing bout had seen /Oliver tackled by Lamb Fryday got over from a loose rush. Kingston goaled.
