VALEDICTORY.

Sept. 23. A farewell social was tendered Mr. and Mrs. R. McK. Morison, who are leaving shortly for Auckland, at St. Andrew’s Manse last evening, when a large number assembled to say good-bye to one of the best known families in the district. A very pleasant social evening, interspersed with songs, games and speeches, was spent. The Rev. J. W. Mackenzie, in a short speech, voiced the appreciation and good wishes of all who knew Mr. Morison, and presented him with a rug. Messrs. P. Thompson and A. Lilley also spoke in appreciation of Mr. Morison’s good work as an office-bearer in the church and in connection with the Sunday school. Mr. Morison, in responding, outlined the history of the church from its beginning in Stratford, and expressed all good wishes for its future development, and regret at leaving the district. During the evening songs were given by Mr. and Mrs. Ching (duets), Mrs. Ching, and Messrs. P. Aitken, H. L. Betts and P. Thompson, and a very enjoyable social ended with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne”. . Mr. Morison is a gentleman who, during a long residence in Stratford, has interested himself in public work, and has proved a helpful and progressive citizen to the town. It is understood that he leaves at the end of this week to take up residence in Auckland, and his many friends will wish him and his family the best of luck in their new home.
