THE BASIC WAGE.

JUDGMENT OF THE COURT. By Telegraph.—Press Asan—Copyright. Received Sept. 23, 10.15 pan. Melbourne, Sept, 23. In the Federal Arbitration Court, Mr. Justice Powers delivered judgment on the basic Wage question. He suggested a scheme of endowment in which there would be one flat rate fixed for single and married men. This would require a basic wage of £4 weekly. Under the proposal £3 10s would then be paid to every worker, married or single, and the other 10s would be paid to a fund controlled by the Federal and State Governments, and parents would receive for each living child under fourteen years rOs weekly. Mr. Justice Powers added that the constitution would have to be altered to permit of the operation of the scheme.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
