QUEENSLAND POLITICS. By Telegraph.—Presi Assn—Copyright. Brisbane, Sept. 22. In the Assembly the Government was defeated by 33 votes to 32 in the committee stage of a Bill to retire judges at the age of 70. When progress was reported the Government gathered three more supporters and recommitted the Bill, which was carried by ,35 votes to 33. THE FARRER MEMORIAL. ■Melbourne. Sept. 22. The Agricultural Conference has decided to establish an Australian organisation known as the Fairer Memorial. The object is to reward a. person developing a wheat or cereal superior to any now existing, or-who improves any indigenous gi’ass, or makes any worthy ■improvement associated with primary production. [Mr. J'arrer. by careful breeding, produced several varieties of wheat suited to Australian conditions, which gave a much higher yield than those previously cultivated.]
