CRICKET.
NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. ( THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Cricket Club wae held in the Soldiers’ Club last night, Mr. W. C. Weston presiding over a fair attendance. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet (already published), Mr. Weston said the season had been a successful one. For the coming year the position in regard to playinggrounds was very uncertain and it behoved the club to get to work in the matter at once. He was sure that the Jockey Club would give every assistance in regard to a pitch on the course.; It was inadvertently omitted from the report that Mr. T. H. Bate’s trophy was won by Mr. W. H. Quickfall, who, during the season, took 34 wickets for 6 runs each. The report and balance-sheet were adopted without discussion. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Officers of the club for the ensuing year were elected as follows: —Patron, Mr. E. Whittle; president, Mr. H. A. Stratford; vice-presidents, Messrs. T. H. Bates, R. A. Large, G. H. Saunders, Dr. E. A. Walker, and Dr. E. F. Fookes; club captain, Mr. G. H. Saunders; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. H. Quickfall; hon. auditor, Mr. E. Lash; management committee, Messrs. W. N. Stephenson, A. B. Macdonald, A. W. Morrison, E. Dinniss, F. C. Ferry, P. Shepherd, and P. E. Stainton; delegates to the association, Messrs. W. H. Qnickr’all and A. C. Lawrey; vice-president North Taranaki Cricket Association, Mr. T. H. Bates. GENERAL. •Mr. C. O. Berg brought up the question of the number of delegates that should attend the North Taranaki Cricket Association. He considered that two delegates from each club were sufii- : cient, whereas at present each club was allowed to send two delegates from each team and a large club could swamp a meeting of the association. It was decided that it be a notice of motion to the association that, in the event of any ciub having more than one team, that the number of delegates from that c’ub should not exceed one to each team, and that the minimum number of delegates from any club be two. Mr. Berg said that another matter that should receive attention was the datj of the opening of the season. He said it was not in the interests of cricket to begin the season as late as was the case last year. It was decided that it be a recommendation to the committee to open the season not later than October
Votes of thanks were accorded the outgoing officers, Mr. T. H. Bates, the umpires, and the Press for assistance during the past season.
