COTTON FAILURE.

REDUCED CROP IN AMERICA. WORLD’S SUPPLY AFFECTED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Sept. 21, 9.10 p.m. Washington, Sept. 21. The Vicksburg (Mississippi) correspondent of the Now York Times states that an investigation shows that the 1921 cotton crops in the south will be 50 per cent, below normal, approximately 7,000,000 bales. The boll weevil insect pest is responsible for the loss of 2,500,000 to 4,000,000 bales, and the remainder is due to a reduction of acreage by the planters in an attempt to diversify the crops. The loss through the weevil will total 250 to 400 million dollars, and the reduction of the crop will seriously deplete the world’s supply of cotton.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. '
