LONDON MARKETS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 15th instant: — Wool.—The wool sales closed firmly to-day—-offerings mostly sold. As compared with last sales' closing rates, prices are about 15 per cent, higher for greasy super merino, fine and medium crossbred; about 10 per cent higher for fine and medium scoured crossbred and coarse greasy crossbred; about ten to fifteen per cent, higher for medium and inferior Merino and scoured super Merino; about 5 per cent, higher for greasy super Merino, fine and crossbred slipe; about the same for Merino lambs; and about 10 per cent, lower for greasy crossbred lambs. • Average current London values ofjiie undernoted description of New Zealand greasy wool. Good Merino, medium Merino 12%d, inferior Merino lid, fine crossbred 14 %d, medium crossbred Bd, coarse crossbred (40’s) 5%d. coarse crossbred (36's) N.Z. LOAN & MERCANTILE REPORT. At Opunake on sth Inst., ewes and lambs made 16s 6d, hoggets 10s 3d to Ils 3d, springing heifers to £l2 10s, backward and inferior sorts £6 to £9, store pigs (small) 21s. At Manaia on 6th inst., we had. a small yarding—prices at late rates. At Pahmer Road on 9th inst. little of a good yarding remained unsold, full market values ruling throughout. Yearling heifers and good quality dairy cattle were keenlysought after. We quote: Fat and forward cows £3 15s to £5 Is, stores 22s 6d to £2 3s, others at market value. Store pigs 33s 6d to £2 Is, fat hoggets 12s Gd to 13s, empty cows (sound) to £2 15s, empty heifers £6 7s 6d, Jersey yearling heifers £6 10s to £8 2s Gd, Jersey cross ditto £4 19s, others 35s to £3 12s, springing heifers (best) £l7 10s to £2l, others £8 10s to £l4 10s. At Hawera on 10th inst., we held our Spring horse fair. We had a good entry of all classes. Good sorts were sought after, but others were hard to quit. We quote: Draughts (medium) £33 to £4O 10s, spring carters to £24, light harness horses £8 to £2O, hacks at market value, unbroken draughts (heavy) to £2B, milk carters to £lB. At Kakaramea on 12th inst., weaner pigs made 26s to 29s 6d, good conditioned cows to £2 15s, fat (medluun) ditto £4 2s 6d, old and inferior sorts 15s to 30s, yearling heifers (mixed breeds) £3 4s to £3 6s, springing heifers (good) £l3 to £l5, others £8 to £lO 10s, cows (medium) to £l3 10s. At Eitham on 14th inst., store pigs (small) made to 325, fat cows £6 12s Gd, good conditioned store cows to £2 17s 6d, others 10s to 255, empty heifers to £5 19s, yearling heifers £3 to £4 ss, steers 20s, springing heifers £8 10s to £l3, cows (medium) £l4 10s, old and inferior ditto £7 to £ll 10s. At Hawera on 15th inst., we had a heavy yarding of dairy cows and heifers and bidding for these was brisk throughout, and verysatisfactory prices were obtained. There was a fair yarding of store cattle and sheep, but apart from yearling heifers, these again met with a very poor response. We quote: Store pigs (good) £3 to £3 7s, small ditto 355, fat heifers £B, store cows 15s to 30s, yearling heifers, well grown and mixed breeds, £4 Is to £5, others £2 12s to £3 10s, steers 12s to 255, empty heifers to £5 12s 6d. springing heifers (Jersey) to £23, calved ditto £l9 to £25, springing heifers (mixed breeds and good) £l4 to £l6 10s, backward and Inferior ditto £5 10s to £l3, cows medium to £l6. HAMILTON MARKET. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Ltd., report: — At Hamilton on Thursday, September 15, our yarding of cattle and sheep was small. Pigs were again in great numbers and overtaxed the accommodation. Competition for cattle of all classes was distinctly dull excepting a. pen or twoi>of prime beef which maintained recent values. A great proportion of the, yarding was passed at auction,.but a good clearance was effected privately. Fat bullocks made from £9 to £l2, lighter weights and unfinished lots from £5 17s od to £8 ss, fat and forward cows brought from £3 15s to £5 Is, fresh conditioned cows £2 to £2 15s, store cows 17s 6d to £1 ss, empty 2-year heifers, Jersey cross made to £6 15s, yearling heifers from £2 5s to £4. Competition, however, in this class lacked the spirit that has lately been witnessed. Sheep' were in short supply, practically no fats being penned. Fat ewes made to 17s trd. forward wethers 15s 6d to 16s 6d, 2-tooth store wethers 7s to 9s, good ewes with lambs at foot (good percentage by S.D. rams) 24s 3d. Pigs which were in strong evidence sold much on last week’s basis. Baconers made from £4 10s to £6 ss, porkers £3 to £4 ss, good slips £2 to £2 15s, small slips 27b 6d to £1 ss, weaners 13s to 245.
