FRANCE AND BRITAIN.
ATTACK ON MR. LLOYD GEORGE. BLAMED FOR PRESENT POSITION. By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. Received Sept. 19, 5.5 p.m. London, Sept. 19. The Morning Post’s Paris correspondent states that Professor Alfred Zimmern, writing in Le Matin, violently attacks Mr. Lloyd George, to whom he attaches the sole blame for the present strained Anglo-French relations. He recalls the French disappointment over the broken promises relating to the trial of the ex-Kaiser and the AngloAmerican guarantee to protect France. Professor Zimmern points out that the English people have many broken pledges with which to reproach Mr. Lloyd George. He declares that Mr. Lloyd George continues to hold office solely because he has placed power above duty, and brought the art of political manoeuvring to a state of perfection hitherto unknown in England, and dislocated party politics, thereby preventing the formation of an effective Opposition. He concludes: “The English act slowly, but sooner or later—probably sooner—Mr. Lloyd George will disappear, making room for a statesman—whether from the right or left does not matter—who will represent true British tradition, and whose word will be his bond. If France is patient a little longer the old cameraderie of the trenches will replace the present mistrust.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
