BOROUGH AFFAIRS
NEW PLYMOUTH COUNCIL. THE £60,000 LOAN. The New Plymouth Borough Council met last niirht. Present: The Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson,, Crs. J. Kibby, V. Griffiths, W. Rumball, T. N. Blackball, E. Dingle, R. L. Parkin, R. A. Large and J. Brown. Advice was received from Messrs. Chapman, Skerrett, Tripp and Blair, of Wellington, stating that debentures for the £60,000 loan (from the A.M.P. Society) had been taken up. RAWHITI STREET. A report was made by Cr. Blackhall as to the condition of Rawhiti Street, and he recommended that a footpath be formed on each side of the street, and that the entrance be metalled. His resolution on these lines, however, lapsed for want of a seconder. A proposal by Cr. Kibby, that one footpath be formed, also lapsed. Cr. Rumball moved that two chains of the roadway at the entrance be formed and metalled, the approximate-cost being £7O. This was lost, and finally a motion, proposed by Cr. Griffiths, that the entrance to the street be put in order with gravel, as cheaply as possible was carried. EXTENSION OF WATER MAINS. Nine residents and ratepayers of Dorset Avenue petitioned the council to reconsider the previous decision in regard to extending water mains down the road. Ihey pointed out that there were now eight residents requiring immediate connections with water, and there were two more houses to be erected shortly. Decision was deferred pending a visit of inspection by the council during the week. THE TOKO LEASES. Messrs. George and James Sangster wrote accepting the council’s offer made in response to their objections to the valuations of their sections in the Toko leases. In reply to a councillor the Mayor said this could not affect other leases which had already been signed up. The position in this case was different, as Messrs, gangster had never accepted the first valuation. GENERAL. Authority was given to the engineer to widen the roadway near the chapel at the cemetery, in order to facilitate the movements of traffic.
