Under dote of September 14 the Valuation Department has written to the New Plymouth Borough Council advising “that notices of the new valuations of the New Plymouth Borough will probably be issued at the end of next week.” Permission for the 4th Wellington Battalion (Taranaki Rifles) Band to take up a collection at a recital to be held in Pukekura Park on Sunday, was granted by the New Plymouth Borough Council last night.

Children of the West End School are making good progress practising for an entertainment which is being organised by Messrs. J. Hoskin, T. Petty and J. Lovell in aid of the school funds. The entertainment, which will contain several novel items, will be held at a date to be announced. A short-lived but severe thunderstorm passed over New Plymouth at about 10 o’clock last night. The lightning was particularly vivid and heavy rain accompanied the storm. The sultry weather of the last few days gave indications of an electrical outburst and the storm will no doubt refresh the atmosphere.
