ENTERTAINMENTS.
EVERYBODY’S. CONNIE TALMADGE AND LARRY LEMON. TO-NIGHT AND TO-MORROW. Constance Talmadge, in her role of “A Temperamental Wife,” at Everybody’s, portrays one Billie Billings, born flirt, with the unreasonable expectation of selecting as partner of her joys matrimonially, a man who will have eyes for no other woman but herself. Although friend husband goes a long way towards filling the bill, the discovery that he has a. female secretary, made after the knot is tied, apparently ruins the happiness of his bride, a situation further complicated when he refuses to discharge the source of strife, and the bride elects to teach him.a lesson by eloping with ano account count person. Without a dull moment in its composition, but with many that are filled with shrieks of apperciative laughter, the story plunges headlong through a series of tangles to its final unwinding, and at the close one is left wondering how Constance Talmadge does it. A mere male person ends up by envying the seemingly unlucky husband who has to put up with her vagaries. Good entertainment with a vengeance, and snappy with all nerve and ginger that this wonderful comedienne injects into all her pictures. To top off the bill there ’s the special Larry Lemon comedy scream, “The Sportsman,” and latest gazettes.
THE PEOPLE’S. LAST NIGHT OF “THE SIN THAT WAS HIS.” “The Srn that Was His,” Selzilick’fl best picture to date, concludes to-night at the People's. It stars virile Wm. Faversham in a strong man role in a play of the Alaskan gold camps which eclipses all other screen plays of this type, being a tremendous story of the snowy Northlands —of the gambling hells of Canada and of a man’s redemption. The bill includes gazettes, corned)’ and “The Moonriders.” To-morrow’s change presents a Fox double star attraction with Wm. Russell in “Colorado Pluck.” and F.ileen Percy in “The Mother-heart.”
NEW PLYMOUTH MALE CHOIR. The decided demand for seating accommodation at. the forthcoming concerts of the above society is only an indication of the interest being displayed in an attractive programme. The newspaper reports concerning Mr. Drake’s concerts in other towns are justifying our expectations. Tn Dunedin and Wanganui his reception was paramount in its tone. “Ernest Drake is a household name among New Zealand music lovers, and the popular tenor is sure of, a warm welcome wherever he goes in this country. So greatly did the audience appreciate his singing, that he was encored again and again.”—Wanganui Herald. “The Dominion is rightly proud of this young Prince of Song, who, prior to his leaving for England, had risen to the foremost place among New Zealand tenors. Mr. Drake has come back to us with his glorious voice as fresh and as vigorous as when he left these shores. Not only this but it was at once apparent that there was the same voice, but with greatly added qualities.”—'Wanganui Chronicle. His reception m New Plymouth is therefore assured, for we are acquainted from memorable experience with his splendid capabilities, and are only too anxious for our local music > enthusiasts to enjoy the same. A strong supporting programme has been arranged by the choir, consisting of Mr. A. L. Moore, elocutionist, of New Plymouth, and the Melody Four, New Plymouth’s Male Quartette, the reputations of both being a guarantee of good entertainment. The choir we know has been in preparation of some very good items, and will add their efforts to an already good programme The box plan is now open at Collier’s, tickets being also procurable at The 8.K., Devon Street, and from all members of the choir. The dates of the concerts are Tuesday and Wednesday next. Sent.ember 20 and 21. and 21st.
