Or dera for papers may also be left with them. WAR TROPHIES EXHIBITION. ' Sept. 17. A meeting of the committee set up to deal with the arrangements for the holding of the war trophies exhibition at Stratford was held in the council chambers last night, the Mayor (Mr. J. W. McMillan) presiding over a good attendance. The town clerk (Mr. P. Skoglund) reported that he had written to 25 schools asking how many children would be sent from each. So far only five had replied, but the schools had holidays now. The local school committee had undertaken to supply hot drinks for the visiting school children. The council had agreed to lend lorries for the transport of the exhibits, and all that remained was to arrange for the fixing of tables and and stands. He mentioned that the total value of the exhibits was £250,000. The Mayor said that instead of the opening date of the exhibition being Monday, September 26, the date would be Saturday, September 24. They would want all the assistance they could get from next i Thursday morning. The show was an excellent one, and well worth seeing. OBITUARY. The death of Mr. Thomas Vickers, of Tuna, camfe suddenly at a private hospital early on Saturday morning. He arrived in New Zealand at the agp of twelve, and commenced farthing as a young man in the Midhirst district. He faced the difficulties of pioneer life, and proved a worthy and honorable settler. He occupied several civic positions, and took an active part in patriotic efforts for many years. He was a trustee and office bearer in the Methodist Church, and possessed with a brotherly and affectionate nature he won to himself a wide circle of friends. A widow, six daughters and three sons mourn his loss. WEDDING. MALONE—PAGET. The wedding was solemnised at All Saints Church, Palmerston North, on Tuesday afternoon, of Moana, younger daughter of Dr. and Mrs. T. L. Paget, of Queen Street, Palmerston North, to Maurice Patrick Malone, of Wairoa, second son of the late Colonel and Mrs. W. G. Malone, of Stratford. The bride was charmingly dressed in white embroidered silk stockinette and wore a pretty veil with a chaplet of orange blossoms. Her bouquet was of white primroses and maiden hair fern. The bridesmaids were Misses Ora Paget, sister of the bride, and Angela Wright, of Stratford. The former wore a pretty frock of yellow silk with blue trimmings and a floral hat. Miss Wright was attired in pale blue shot taffeta and wore a blue hat trimmed with gold. The bride’s mother wore a black satin dress embroidered with blue, and a black floral toque hat. Mr. Hope Johnston, of Palmerston North, was the best man. The church had been effectively decorated by the bride’s girl friends. The wedding service was performed by the Rev. H. G. Blackburne. After the ceremony the guests were entertained at the home of the bride’s parents. Mr. and Mrs. Malone left later by motor on their honeymoon.— Manawatu Daily Times.
