FIRE BRIGADE STRIKE.
TOWN IN DEBT TO BRIGADE. AMUSING INCIDENT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. Received Sept. 18, 5.5 p.m. London, Sept. 17. The Daily Chronicle’s Rome correspondent states that a quaint situation has arisen at Milan, where there is a Socialist city council. There was a fire at Greco Milano, which ( is served by a Milanese fire brigade, and a call was sent, but Milan replied that they would not send the engines, as Greco Milano had not paid for its last fire services. Greco Milano telephoned other towns, which all responded that if Greco Milano would not pay Milan it would not pay them. Meanwhile the fire was burning merrily. Finally the town councillor at Greco Milano became security for the debt, and the Milan brigade rushed to the scene and put out the fire after great damage. The Greco Milano Council is communistic, and, like the Milan Council, is hopelessly in-solvent.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
