BURGLARY AT TIMARU. By Telegraph —Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. Three shops at Pleasant Point, to which no dwellings are attached, were broken into on Friday night after 11 p.m. In two cases tills were emptied of silver totalling £32 10s, and in the third ease the till resisted the attempt to open it. There is no clue of the culprit.
CLOSING TRAINING FARM. Christchurch, Sept. 17. Mr. Witty, M.P., has received a letter from the Director of Repatriation stating that owing to a steady decrease in the Treasury figures on Government experimental farms for discharged soldiers it may be found necessary to close down the farm at Avonhead, as the expense incurred is too great for the amount of work done. The men a$ Avonhead will be given an opportunity to finish their course, but future applicants would have to take their training at Ruakura.
