BOROUGH COUNCIL

MONDAY’S MEETING

THE TOKO LEASES.

At Monday night’s meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council, the Onehuaga Borough Council wrote drawing attention to the necessity of making it compuleoryfor motorists to carry on the rear of their vehicles some means of showing after nightfall in what direction they were driving, and thus minimise the danger of accident.—Received.

At a sj>ecial meeting a resolution was passed widening portions of certain streets in the borough where land had been acquired in connection with subdivisions of land.

A sub-committee recently appointed tu ; ) deal with the Toko Borough teases (Ore. Rumball and Brown) reported that they I had gone over Mr. G. Sangster’s farm, and, | had come to the conclusion that the valuation of the improvements made by the lute Mr. H. F. Russell was altogether too high. Mr. Sangster, they reported, would not take up the new leases unless the valuations were reduced. He had since made a very reasonable offer, although considerably less than Mr. Russell’s valuation. The committee recommended its acceptance. The borough manager stated that Mr. Sangster was only objecting to the valuation of one section, and he had taken up. the other.

The committee said the two sections should go together, as in both cases the valuations were on the high side.

Cr. Griffiths moved that Mr. Sangster be* requested to put his offer into writing, ( and that in the event of it being as reported by the committee the offer be accepted.

The Mayor seconded, remarking that th®, council were fortunate in a matter of this kind in having the advice of two prac- , tical farmers competent to estimate the 1 value of such improvements. Wbe resolution was carried.
