THE IRON INDUSTRY.
REVIVAL IN BRITAIN. By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. Received Sept. 13, 7.25 p.m. London, Sept. 12. The production of pig iron and steel ingots last month showed an increase compared with July, and forty-six blast furnaces were operating, compared with fifteen at the end of July. An increasing number of collieries have been rendered idle in the Newcastle district owing to the lack of foreign trade, the owners preferring to stop work rather than incur heavier losses at still lower prices.
