DISTRICT NEWS.
PUNIHO. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The recent Pierrot concert at Okato was the means of adding £l5 to Puniho-Warea Church Fund. Mr. Pearson and Mr. Cooke, organiser and secretary respectively, are to be congratulated upon the success of their efforts. The Okato footballers’ ball, which is looked forward to as the event of the year, takes place on the 21st inst. A large committee has been set up, and the function promises to be as good as its predecessors.
The following pupils o f Mr. A. E. R. Pearson were successful in the recent musical examinations in connection with the Trinity College of Music held in New Plymouth. Senior: Phyllis Street, 84 (honors). Intermediate: Phillip Meredith, 8G (honors), Margaret Jones 72. Preparatory: Sylvia Cooke, 85 (honors). Ruth Luxton, 84 (honors), Rita Meredith, 84 (honors). First steps: Irene Honeyfield, 86.
Miss M. Pearson, of this district, was also successful, obtaining 85 marks in the Licentiate Trinity College. Miss Pearson is a musician of great promise, having passed the following exams in 1920: Intermediate Theory, Higher Rudiments Theory, Associate Practical, in which she obtained the highest marks in the North Island (86). Tn the Royal Academy: Rudiments Theory and Advanced Practical. On 3rd inst., Licentiate. Miss Pearson is a pupil of the Convent, New Plymouth.
The wind up of the Newall Road Social Committee’s dances took place in the barn on Friday last. There was a large attendance, the floor being in first class order. M. Pearson supplied the music. Extras were played by Miss C. Julian and Mr. M. Payne. The floor was in the charge of AU - . A. Cassie.
