HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER.
QUESTION OF A SURVEY. THE MAYOR’S NEW MOVE. PROPOSAL TO RESCIND DECISIONS. The question of making a survey of source® of water supply which might be harnessed to augment the New Plymouth hydro-electric scheme was again brought before the Borough Council at last night’s meeting. The chairman of the ratepayers' meeting held last Tuesday night (Mr. C. Carter) wrote conveying the terms of the resolutions passed on that occasion, urging the council to jfcoceed with a survey to ascertain what additional water is available for power purposes; and ako recommending that the No. 2 tunnel be curried on as at present, at the larger size, until the survey has been made.
When the letter was read the Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson) said there were certain resolutions to rescind before thf council could give effect to the request He invited councillors to move.
There being no response, the Mayo; said he would give notice to move a* next meeting that the resolutions viously passed affecting this question be rescinded. He informed member* that if any of them desired to table other motions they should do so a few days before the next meeting.
The Mayor also gave notice to move that steps be taken to raise a loan of £9OOO for the following purposes: To provide a survey with estimates of available further water for the present hydro-electric works; and to enlarge No. 2 tunnel.
