THE WORLD’S DEBT.

A REMARKABLE PROPOSAL. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received September 10, 5.5 p.m. Geneva, Sept. 9. M. Henri Lafontairie (Vice-President of the Senate), has made a remarKa&le proposal to the League of Nations, which he himself characterised as audacious. He said the world was suffering from an enormous debt, the year’s interest on which at 5 per cent, was six-ty-one milliards of francs, of which only 11 per cent, was pre-war debt. It was not right that those who lost the most should be the sufferers, while neutrals became richer. He wanted the whole debt to become the debt of' the League, with the creation of an international market.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
