INGLEWOOD,

(From Our Own Correspondent.) September 9. i On Tuesday last a very enjoyable even; ing was spent at Mr. C. Pearce s, on Bristol Road, where, in spite of coftmter attractions at Waitui and Inglewood, some thirty friends assembled, determined on a really good social time, a good many coming by motor ’bus from Inglewood. Songs were sung and dances danced to music supplied by Messrs. Drayitzki, C. Martin and C. James, the vocalists being .Messrs. J. Archibald, Chas. Pearce, G. Schofield, G. Sisley and the veteran of the district, Mr. W. Wilson, all of whose contributions to the programme were heartilyapplauded. A bountiful supper provided by Mesdames Pearce and Schofield was very highly appreciated by their guests, whom it so re-invigorated that they kept the fun going till the screed o’ day on Wednesday, and Were able to declare, when they met that day at the saleyards, that they never felt better, and were ready for such another reunion whenever opportunity offered.

Sincere congratulations are due, and are hereby offered to the staff of the Inglewood Convent School on the very satisfactory results, as published in the News of the 9th instant, of the music examination held there in connection with the Trinity College, London. It is stated that every candidate presented passed, some with honors a highly creditable record. Inglewood, like most other places just now, could do with just a nice drop of rain, but we want it exactly right. Lightfalling, with soft northerly breeze at back and lasting just long enough to put the gardens and farms in fresh spring condition, and, even so, some are doubtful whether they would not rather have it put off till Thursday and Friday, 15th and 16th, so as not to jeopardise the spring flowers and bulbs so carefully nurtured and. tended for the sho\v. Rumor has it that, given favorable weather conditions, the exhibition should be exceptionally fine. We can grow bulbs here, and some produce magnificent blooms. Come and see.
