LORD NORTHCLIFFE.
VIEWS ON IRISH QUESTION. TRIBUTE TO OVERSEAS PRESS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received September 9, 7.30 pm. Sydney, Sept. 9. Lord Northcliffe, referring to the Irish position, declared that he could say, without reservation, that if setting up an Irish Republic within thirteen miles of Scotland or sixty miles of Wales is intended, no such Republic would be tolerated by the people at Home, or those he had met oversea. Speaking at the Press Club reception, Lord Northcliffe paid a tribute to the accuracy of the Press comment in connection with British public affairs, “Seeing that you are twelve thousand miles away on the other side of the cable barrier, which I hope we shall be able to break down.”
