HOCKEY.
NORDEN CUP MATCH. TARANAKI v. WAIRARAPA. To-day Taranaki will be called upon to defend the Norden Cup for the second time, when the challengers will be Wairarapa. The match will he played at Hawera, commencing at 2 o'clock, and is certain to be keenly fought out, as Wairarapa are. determined to take the cup back with them, whereas Taranaki are equally determined to retain it, and have accordingly put in their strongest available eleven. The selectors, Messrs. Davidson (Kaponga), Johnson (Eltham). and Sage (Hawera). have selected the following eleven to represent Taranaki: Forwards, F. Frethey (Eltham), A. Foden (Ha.w’era), M. Priest, \V. Bennie (Kaponga), K. Pennington (Eltham); halves, L. Page (Eltham), F. Nicholl (Kaponga), F. Campion (Hawera); backs, P. Thoumine (Kaponga), L. Gr. P. Whyte (Hawera); goal, T. Bennie (Kaponga-). Emergencies: Forward. It. Wilton (Hawera); back, Free (Eltham). The referees will be Messrs. Fisher (Wanganui), and Sidow (Hawera). TARANAKI LADIES' TEAM. The Taranaki ladies’ team, which Is to take part in the Dominion ladies’ tournament commencing at Palmerston North on Saturday, is at present engaged in "practice at Hawera, and will leave for Palmerston North on Friday morning. This afternoon the team will j probably be seen in action at Hawera against a. combined Stratford team before or after the Norden Cup match.
