A reassuring /statement from a trust* worthy quarter regarding the Abyssinian incursion into Kenyan, has pointed out that such raids are not unusual. No danger to the colonists is anticipated, the hundreds of miles of desert separating Abyssinia from Kenyan European settlements being regarded as an efficient barrier • against attack.—Reuter Service. A big labor-saving device, known as a burner, used in the Mersey ship-repairing yards, only requires two men to work it, but the Boiler-makers’ Society ha« hitherto insisted that it shall not be used unless twenty-five men are employed thereon. The price of butter will be reduced to-morrow by Id per pound. THE PLUNKET CAMPAIGN. Sydney, .Sept. 6. Dr. Purdy, Metropolitan Health Officer, president at an address given by | the Hon. W. H. Twiggs on public health in New Zealand, said that some branches of the public health service in New Zealand led the world, especially the remarkable campaign for the reduction of infantile mortality. OVERSEAS VOYAGES DEFINED. Melbourne. Sept. 6. The Marine Council made the following recommendations tn the Minis- , ter of Customs: “That the findings . of the Manning Committee be given j the force of law; that an oversea voyage be deemed to start at the port where the vessel first loads cargo ■ which she is to deliver -overseas, and to end at the port where she finally i discharges it; in the event of a vessel leaving Australia in ballast she be i deemed to be an overseas vessel from j her departure from the last Australian j port; similarly a vessel arriving be i deemed an oversea vessel till she reaches I her first Australian port.” '
