A local business man; who endeavored to get into telephonic communication with the Fire Brigade to-day was unsuccessful in two attempts. His business was not of an urgent nature, but there might have been a very serious aspect to the incident had there been a fire to-day. It is surely necessary that means should be provided whereby the brigade, may be called out at short notice.
In a letter to a friend in Stratford, Dr. D. Steven, who is at present on a trip to the Old Country, stated that he had attended the annual meeting of the British Medical Association at Newcas-tle-on-Tyne.
Miss Marie Nilsson, who is to sing in the Taranaki Scottish Society’s concert in the Town Hall to-morrow evening, was expected to arrive in Stratford tonight. Afiss Nilsson has been achieving very great success of late, and at a recent concert at Wanganui had to sing no less than twelve times before a very appreciative audience would permit her to leave the stage. There has come to Stratford people an opportunity to obtain good jewellery such as they have rtever experienced before. In an advertisement in another column the P.A.C. call attention to the fact that they are selling every day this week on account of a big ton pawnbroking firm, a big selection of unredeemed pledges, which include many kinds of valuable jewellery. Tn these days of “brummagen” brooches and chains such a chance to secure really good jewellery at small cost should attract many people.
