PERSONAL.
At the - annual meeting of the Kaupokonui Dairy Company on Monday Mr. T. McPhillips was elected chairman of directors. The death occurred on Thursday at Christchurch of Miss Florence Sheard, M.A., B.Sc., senior member of the staff of the Girls’ High School. Mr. William Hoban, barrister and solicitor, who died at Christchurch after a long illness, aged sixty, was born at Christchurch in 1861, and educated at the Catholic school. He was articled to Mr. John Holmes, and admitted as a barrister and solicitor in 1883. He practised in Christchurch until 1894, but then spent some time in the Chatham Islands, where he owned land. On returning to Christchurch fie resumed his practice, which was exten&ive, his clients including many members of the Licensed Victuallers’ Association. Mr. Hoban was a member or the Sydenham Football Club in his early days, and took an interest in many branches of sport, including racing. He stood for Parliament twice, first in Kaiapoi and then in Christchurch, but was unsuccessful on both occasions. Recently he a health trip to England.
