AGRICULTURE MATTERS.

TARANAKI SOCIETY. GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETS. A meeting of the general committee of the Taranaki A. and P. Society was held yesterday afternoon. Present; Messrs. W. B. Grant (chairman), H. C. Sampson, J. H. Allen. A. Turnbull, VV. Hall, J. A. Kurth, H. Stonex, A. T. Moore, and A. R. Gudopp. A vote of condolence was passed with Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Short in their bereavement, members standing. A letter was received from the Egmont A. and P. Society in reference to the fixing of show dates. This matter will come before the meeting of the committee on the 10th inst. The Taranaki Boxing Association were, subject to certain conditions, granted the hire of forms for the tournament to be held on the 24th inst. The New Zealand Council of Agriculture reported that at a meeting of the council it had been resolved: “That disputes between associations re show dates be referred to- the executive, who shall set up a committee to arbitrate on the question.”—Received. Another resolution forwarded by the council stated: “That a Royal Agricultural Show of New Zealand be held alternately in the North and South Islands, so that visitors in search of stud stock would be able tfo see the best of ; the New Zealand breeds.”—The correspondence in connection with the Royal I Show was held over for consideration at the next monthly meeting of the ' committee.

An emphatic protest was entered af the action of the New Plymouth Borough Council in commandeering the society’s gear on the occasion of the war trophies exhibition without, first obtaining the society’s permission. The council will be held responsible for any damage done. The rent of the annex at the Coronation Hall was fixed at 30s per night, this amount to include lighting, but to be exclusive of the charge for gas consumption. Mr. H. D. Wallach was elected a member of the society.

The chairman mentioned that about 150 members’ subscriptions were outstanding, and the hope was expressed that, as the society had incurred unforeseen expenses, these subscriptions would be paid immediately.
