SOUTHERN MARKETS. A HEALTHY TONE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Taken all round, the markets show a? healthy tone, and merchants are fairly wettj satisfied at the amount of business beinff done. Milling wheat to-day went up -%d accordlnrf to the price fixed by the Government. Oats have been quitting well during the past few days, but ehaff is quieter than it has beenr lately. Perennial and Italian ryegrass are moving out steadily all the time, but cowgraM is a little quieter, although there is still * demand for it from overseas, Cocksfoot continues to show briskness at the increased prices that it made during the week. While I the reason for the increase is not dear, it is | thought the drought at Home in forcing up the.; i price of Danish seed has caused a rise here •in sympathy. It might also be due to farm--1 ers in the North Island intending to do more sowing than was done last season owing to the financial position. Barley is practically dead. AUCKLAND SHAREMARKET.
